Bibliotheek Gelderland Zuid closes all branches until further notice

In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, all branches of the Bibliotheek Gelderland Zuid are closed until further notice. All activities in our libraries have been cancelled until the 1st of June.

This applies for all branches in the six municipalities in the field of operations of the Bibliotheek Gelderland Zuid: Nijmegen, Heumen, Berg en Dal, Beuningen, Overbetuwe and Lingewaard.

Library members can continue to use the library’s online services, such as borrowing e-books and audiobooks, free of charge. Borrowed materials can be renewed online via ‘Mijn Bibliotheek’ or via the Bibliotheek Wise App.

As of Friday 13 March members do not have to pay fines for returning borrowed materials too late. This applies until one week after our libraries reopen. After that date, the normal overdue charges will apply.

The most current information about the coronavirus can be found on the RIVM website.

I want to go to the library. Is that possible?

No, unfortunately that is not possible. All branches of Bibliotheek Gelderland Zuid are closed until further notice.

Why are all the branches closed?

On Sunday, 15 March, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) announced new guidelines to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus. The closure of the branches is in line with this advice. The health and safety of the employees, volunteers and visitors take priority.

Will I be fined if I return my books too late?

As of Friday 13 March members do not have to pay fines for returning borrowed materials too late. This applies until one week after our libraries reopen. After that date, the normal overdue charges will apply. Naturally, fines built up before and after this period do have to be paid.

I still have books at home. Can I return these?

You can keep borrowed materials at home until further notice. You will not have to pay any fines for this. The return boxes are closed, with the exception of the De Mariënburg Library. You can therefore still return materials there.

I reserved materials before the library closed. Will my reservation be kept?

Good news! You can come and collect your reserved materials by appointment. You will receive an e mail about this. If you are not able to come to the library yourself, we can deliver the materials to your home address. Naturally, we observe the hygiene measures of the RIVM here.

I have reserved a book. Will that reservation still stand?

Yes, this reservation will remain standing until our libraries open again.

Can I make a new reservation?

No, at present it is not possible to reserve materials from our collection, this also applies to the reservation of materials from other libraries.

Tip: is there a book you would like to read? Add this to your "favorites list" so that you can reserve them later.

I was going to attend an activity. Are these still going ahead?

No, all activities and courses at the branches of the Bibliotheek Gelderland Zuid have been cancelled until further notice.

I bought a ticket for an activity. What happens now?

Paid activities will be postponed or visitors will be refunded for entrance tickets
purchased.

How will I know when the library is open again?

We are closely monitoring development relating to the coronavirus. As soon as the RIVM announces that it is safe to open again, we will report this via our website and social media channels.

Can I still join the library?

Yes, you can still join by registering via obgz.nl/lid-worden.

Do I have to pay a subscription charge now that the libraries are closed?

Yes. The coronavirus crisis is a situation beyond the library’s control, as a result of which it is temporarily unable to provide some of its services. We organise alternatives to make our books, CDs and DVDs available as quickly and safely as possible, despite the closure of our branches. In doing so, we observe the hygiene measures of the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). Our tips-voor-thuis (‘tips for at home’) page explains which of the library’s products and services you can use online, such as audio books, e-books and online language exercises. Naturally, we are also thinking about how we can thank you for your support and patience after this crisis.

Which services will still continue?

You can still use our online services such as databanks, e-books and audiobooks.

I have another question. Is there somewhere I can contact for this?

Our Customer Service can be contacted on weekdays between 9.00 a.m. and 6.00 p.m. on +31 (0)24-3274911 or you can send questions via info@obgz.nl.
